In 2006, Greece Athena High School had one of the greatest basketball stories around the world. Jason McElwain (“J-Mac”) was diagnosed with autism at the age of two. Jason McElwain has always had a passion for sports and never considered himself different from the other kids. Unfortunately for Jason, he did not make the junior varsity basketball team.
Instead, Jason was appointed manager of the team, a role that he maintained even with the senior varsity team. The last game of the season, for the division title, Jason was told by coach Jim Johnson that he could get the opportunity to play.
